UNION STATION 2023 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
OUR Vision
We envision many great opportunities for the rehabbed property, the largest of which being the main building’s transformation into a multi-purpose space. This space will include a historical element, vendor/community retail space, and art gallery. The stairs leading to the second floor will contain a seating area for guests to rest before entering the enclosed platform area.
Currently, Union Station is an unoccupied building with over 4,000 square feet of space – not including the land it sits on. We intend to fully rehabilitate this structure and its grounds to improve economic development and foster positive social interactions within our city.
Social Impact
To bring our vision to life, we understand that we cannot do it alone. We seek a collective effort and a pulling-together of resources to make Union Station a place for communities to be strengthened and opportunities for personal, social, and economic growth to flourish.
Union Station’s restoration will also add much-needed value to the downtown neighborhood. Residents and visitors will enjoy a safe space to interact over food, spirits, craft beer, coffee, art, and much more.
Financial Aspects
The Decay Devils are completing a capital campaign (Union Station’s first-ever) with a goal of raising $2.0 million to help make this exciting project – mixed-use / community space, dining, and new administrative office space – a reality. When completed we will be a hub of innovation, creation and interaction for the Gary community. The project will be funded by a combination of private philanthropy, grants, and short-term financing (figures are estimates):
· $5.0 million – estimated project cost (design, construction, landscaping, furnishings, administration)
· $2.0 million – fundraising goal from private donors, foundations, and friends
· $3.0 million – Various Tax Credits
Our goal is not only to complete this project, but also to ignite and foster ideas of rehabilitation and development, ultimately leading to a stronger, healthier and more vibrant community.
