We aren't place-making, we are place activating! w/ Sarah Marsom

Your community has wonderful histories and resources that can amplify your downtown (and surrounding areas). Let's activate your community in new ways using creative strategies to tell stories of the past. Learn about a wide variety of storytelling strategies from traditional signage to sculptures to window clings to vinyl heat transfer murals and everything in between. The presentation will also dive into practical considerations when deciding how to implement your interpretive art. You'll learn about things to think about when installing a sign or a mural on an old building, strategies to determine best locations for installation, and community engagement strategies.

Workshop: Participants will discuss their communities and identify locations for place activating/storytelling strategies. They'll analyze what strategies make the most sense and where. They’ll also brainstorm at least one strategy to engage the community in the project process. If the grantee is proposing a statue or a restoration project, this workshop will help them brainstorm how to connect a singular site into the large community and how to engage people passively/ actively at that location.
